The Finnish Design Deed 2017 celebrated men’s fashion
The menswear line FRENN has received the Design Deed of the year award at the Habitare expo. The two men behind FRENN, Antti Laitinen and Jarkko Kallio, received the award to loud applause in the heart of Helsinki on 13 September 2017.
Before revealing the winner, the audience got to enjoy a video about how the jury reached its decision – they wanted to highlight the business concept of FRENN, where both design and customer experience form a harmonious whole. The jury appreciated the fact that FRENN is proudly Finnish, and yet clearly international.
FRENN, whose sales increased 60% in 2016, will promote their Fall 2018 collection at Pitti Uomo in Florence, the world’s most significant menswear trade event. With their quality clothes that are effortlessly sophisticated, there’s no doubt international audiences will be dazzled in Florence.
“For Antti and me this was both a recognition for the work we’ve put into FRENN, but also for our career in Finnish design for the past 20 years”, FRENN’s CEO Jarkko Kallio stated.
“It feels great to be honored for the consistent concept we’ve upheld and the arduous work and research we’ve put into FRENN.”

Brand Manager Johanna Lahti and Managing Director Tero Lausala from the Association for Finnish Work and jury member Arni Aromaa, founding member and creative director of Pentagon Design, granted the coveted Design Deed of the Year award at Habitare Fair 2017.
The esteemed award has been given out since 2012 by The Design from Finland mark. 2017 has been a historic year for the Design Deed, since FRENN is the first adult clothing brand to receive the award. “As well as FRENN, this was a magnificent milestone for Finnish men’s design – when we first started four years ago, there were only a few domestic clothing brands for men and now it’s a rapidly growing industry”, Kallio says.
